Indigo Boo was created in Nairobi Kenya in 1995 by Boo Mellows. After a visit to see family in India she decided to bring some fabrics back to Kenya – it proved to be a great success so much so that the first Indigo Boo shop was opened in Gigiri, Nairobi; quickly followed by another shop in Karen, Nairobi. The most successful lines were curtains and upholstery fabrics which were all designed by Boo.

Having left Kenya in 2005 and moved to England, Boo was uncertain as to which direction Indigo Boo would take, but after looking at her experience of the factories in India she decided to embark on a clothing line. It has taken some time to develop the business as there is a lot to learn about garments, sizings, and of course the development of fabrics, dying, printing etc. but her simple and colourful style has proved to be very popular and of course easy to wear, relaxed and smart without being too formal.

Her love of all types of textiles and colours has given the business the passion that keeps on driving her to develop beautiful natural fibres into dynamic colours and easy to wear garments. The fact that everything she sells is hand made and hand finished adds to her enjoyment of the creativity side. Each item has individuality and has been handled not only by the machinists but also by all the ladies who hand stitch the hems and stitch on the buttons. Just in case you were wondering there is NO child labour!! The factory has 24 male machinists and 12 ladies who are doing the finishing. It is a very happy environment to work in which also adds to the enjoyment when she visits.
